Job description
Vice President, Power, Utilities & Infrastructure Investment Banking
New York, NY
We are working with a leading global investment bank that is expanding its Power, Utilities & Infrastructure investment banking franchise in New York following a period of significant growth and exceptionally strong transaction activity.
The team is looking to hire a Vice President who can take a leading role in the execution of complex M&A and strategic advisory assignments across the sector.
This is primarily an execution role rather than an origination hire, making it particularly attractive for technically strong VPs who want to remain close to transactions while gaining significant exposure to senior clients and highly experienced Managing Directors.
A HIGH GROWTH PLATFORM
The group has expanded materially and now combines four senior Managing Directors with a growing team of VPs, Associates and Analysts.
Despite that growth, the platform remains lean relative to its transaction pipeline.
Current and recent activity includes:
- A recently announced $3bn utility acquisition
- A pending multi-billion-dollar sale of a power and district energy platform
- An active ~$500m solar buy-side mandate
- An active ~$1bn strategic restructuring / transaction
- Additional assignments spanning power generation, regulated utilities, renewables and energy infrastructure
The senior team includes bankers who have held leadership positions or built their careers at several of the world's leading investment banking franchises.
For an experienced VP, that combination provides exposure to sophisticated transactions while offering considerably more visibility and responsibility than is often possible within a larger, more layered banking team.
THE ROLE
You will act as a senior execution lead across M&A and strategic advisory transactions.
Responsibilities will include:
- Managing the day-to-day execution of complex transactions
- Leading financial analysis, valuation and transaction modelling
- Managing Associates and Analysts across live engagements
- Reviewing transaction materials and providing senior-level technical oversight
- Coordinating diligence, documentation and workstreams across transaction processes
- Working directly with senior executives, sponsors, corporates and other transaction counterparties
- Developing strategic and transaction recommendations alongside senior coverage bankers
- Preparing and delivering high-impact client presentations
- Maintaining close communication with senior bankers as transactions progress
- Training and developing junior members of the team
- Contributing sector and market expertise across power, utilities and energy infrastructure
WHO WE'RE LOOKING FOR
The preferred candidate will currently be operating at the VP1 or VP2 level within investment banking.
Candidates should bring:
- Strong M&A transaction execution experience
- Excellent financial modeling and valuation capabilities
- Experience managing junior deal teams
- The ability to run multiple transaction workstreams simultaneously
- Strong client communication and presentation skills
- High attention to detail and sound commercial judgment
- A track record of operating successfully in demanding investment banking environments
Experience within Power & Utilities is strongly preferred, particularly within power generation, renewables or broader energy infrastructure.
Candidates from a leading M&A product group with relevant transaction exposure will also be considered.
The mandate is focused on finding an exceptional execution banker. A significant existing book of business or demonstrated origination track record is not required.
COMPENSATION
Vice Presidents have historically received a $275k base salary, with VP total cash compensation ranging from $500k-$700k dependent on performance.
There is flexibility for exceptional candidates.
The bank may also consider:
- Bonus buyouts
- Approximately $10k of relocation assistance for candidates moving to New York
- Certain H-1B situations on a case-by-case basis
Candidates with existing US work authorization are preferred.
WHY JOIN
The attraction of this opportunity is straightforward:
Significant deal flow, a rapidly growing franchise, an unusually strong senior banking team and the opportunity to become a key execution leader within a platform that is continuing to invest.
For VPs who want to remain deeply involved in transactions rather than moving prematurely into a purely origination-focused role, this is an especially compelling opportunity.
If you are currently a Vice President in investment banking and would like to discuss the opportunity confidentially, please apply or contact Talisman Advisory Partners directly.

Tip: ask the recruiter early, in writing, which visa they sponsor and whether they cover the legal and filing fees.
