Job description

About Model Oncology

Model Oncology partners with community health systems to build and operate sustainable oncology programs. The organization does not function as a conventional consultancy that delivers a strategy and exits, nor as a traditional management services organization administering back-office functions at a distance. Model Oncology embeds within each partner system, operating alongside local teams and assuming accountability for program outcomes over the long term.

The organization's work encompasses program design, physician recruitment, pharmacy strategy, payer contracting, and the operational infrastructure required for communities to deliver high-quality cancer care close to home. Model Oncology holds itself to the standard of a genuine, accountable partner rather than a vendor.

Position Summary

Model Oncology is recruiting a board-eligible or board-certified Hematology/Oncology physician for an established, community hospital-based medical oncology practice in Springfield, Missouri. This is a predominantly outpatient role in a program that pairs medical oncology with radiation oncology and on-site infusion under one roof, supported by a full multidisciplinary care team. The practice offers a balanced hematology and oncology case mix, strong clinical trial infrastructure, and a schedule built around sustainable, high-quality patient care.

Practice Highlights

  • Predominantly outpatient practice operating standard weekday clinic hours, five days per week, structured to support work-life balance.
  • Co-located model that integrates medical oncology, radiation oncology, and an on-site outpatient infusion center in a single building.
  • Multidisciplinary support team including nurse navigation, social services, and financial counseling.
  • Typical daily volume of roughly 15 to 18 patients, with support from one advanced practice provider.
  • Balanced case mix split evenly between hematology and oncology.
  • Strong research infrastructure across both commercial and academic clinical trials.
  • Opportunity to extend care through outreach clinics serving underserved communities in the region.
  • Inpatient oncology consultation on patients admitted to the hospitalist service; no supervision of inpatient chemotherapy.
  • Epic EMR with built-in NCCN chemotherapy regimen templates.
  • Call coverage of approximately 1 in 5.

Compensation & Support

  • Competitive compensation package with sign-on and relocation support.
  • Visa sponsorship available; the position supports H-1B.

Qualifications

  • MD or DO.
  • Board-eligible or board-certified in Hematology/Oncology.
  • Eligible for medical licensure in the State of Missouri.
  • Commitment to high-quality, patient-centered community oncology care.
  • Comfortable practicing across a balanced hematology and oncology case mix in a multidisciplinary, integrated setting.

The Community

Springfield is the third-largest city in Missouri and a regional hub for health care, dining, and entertainment in the southwest corner of the state, with a metro population of more than 450,000. Residents enjoy a low cost of living, convenient airport access, and top-rated schools. Set in the heart of the Ozarks, the area offers abundant outdoor recreation alongside live music, theater, museums, local sports, and family attractions, making it an appealing place to build both a career and a life.

Why Model Oncology

Model Oncology is a fast-growing team doing work with meaningful real-world impact: expanding access to cancer care in the communities that need it most. Physicians who join a Model Oncology partner program step into an environment built for clinical excellence, with the operational and research support to practice at the top of their license and shape how community oncology is delivered locally.

Visa sponsorship record

No public sponsorship records found

We didn't find H-1B, H-1B1, E-3 or green card (PERM) filings under the name Model Oncology in the Department of Labor and USCIS data. That doesn't mean the job can't be sponsored — the company may file under a different legal name, be new to sponsorship, or sponsor a visa that isn't in these datasets (for example H-2B or J-1).

Tip: ask the recruiter early, in writing, which visa they sponsor and whether they cover the legal and filing fees.

  • Mentioned in the listing

    H-1B

  • H-1B cap-exempt employer

Regular cap-subject employer — a new H-1B needs to win the lottery in March (unless you already hold cap-counted H-1B status).

  • TN (citizens of Canada and Mexico)

This kind of role may fit the USMCA profession “Physician (teaching or research only)” — it depends on the actual duties. No lottery, no cap; you need the matching degree or license.

  • E-3 (Australia) and H-1B1 (Chile, Singapore)

Same degree requirement as H-1B, but no lottery and a separate quota that is rarely filled.

  • O-1 (extraordinary ability)

For candidates with awards, publications, press, a high salary or critical roles at distinguished organizations. No cap, no lottery; the employer files a petition.

Salary vs prevailing wage

LevelPrevailing wageH-1B lottery odds*
Level I$84,989~15%
Level II$165,859~31%
Level III$257,462~46%
Level IV$325,562~61%

The listing has no salary, so we can't place it on a wage level. Ask the employer which wage level they'd file at: Level III–IV registrations get 3–4 entries in the H-1B lottery.

* Odds are DHS projections for the FY2027 wage-weighted lottery (actual results vary by year and employer). Since the FY2027 cap season the H-1B lottery is weighted by wage level: Level I = 1 entry, II = 2, III = 3, IV = 4. The level is set by the offered wage against the prevailing wage for the occupation and worksite. Separately, a $100,000 fee for new H-1B petitions for workers outside the US was announced in 2025; as of September 2026 a federal court ruling keeps it unenforceable while appeals continue — check the current status.
