Position Description: Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center (TTUHSC) Permian Basin Department of Surgery. Our program is rooted in a rigorous, evidence-based educational environment that emphasizes clinical excellence, surgical proficiency, and continuous professional development. As part of our surgery residency program, we are committed to cultivating surgeons who are very technically skilled, as well as focusing on professionalism, exemplifying integrity, inclusivity, and the highest standards of patient-centered care with compassion and kindness. Located in the heart of the Permian Basin—the nation’s largest petroleum-producing region and one of its fastest-growing populations—our department plays a vital role in expanding and strengthening the surgical workforce to meet the urgent healthcare needs of this underserved area. Our mission is to train surgeons who are equipped to serve diverse communities with empathy, cultural competence, and clinical excellence in the Permian Basin or any other community. The General Surgeon will have block time scheduled with our community hospital(s), participating in call coverage rotation and maintaining clinical time for pre and post surgical consultation. Major/Essential Functions: Diagnose and manage a broad array of medical conditions through preoperative, operative and postoperative care. Provide inpatient and outpatient care of surgical patients. Procedures to include both emergent and non-emergent conditions. Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team and refer patients as appropriate. Educate patients on treatment plans, medications and pre and post operation care. Complete medical records accurately and completely in a timely manner. Participate in the training of medical students and residents.

Required Qualifications: MD/DO or equivalent, Completion of, or in the process of completing an ACGME accredited General Surgery Residency, Ability to obtain a TX medical license, Foreign Medical Graduates Only: ECFMG Certification OR Equivalency Certification.
