Job description

Join a Team Committed to Better Care as a Nocturnist in Akron, Ohio at Cleveland Clinic Akron General. We believe in bringing "better" to our local community in Akron — better care, better collaboration, and a deep commitment to the people we serve. If you're looking for a role that supports your professional growth and your connection to a vibrant community, we’d love to talk. We are hiring for a nocturnist position. Our nocturnist role requires working exclusively 7:00 PM to 7:00 AM overnight shifts. Candidates must be comfortable with a nocturnal schedule and possess the ability to deliver exceptional patient care during nighttime hours.

Local Team Collaboration: Become part of a cohesive and long-standing team of 31 physicians and 4 APPs with the support of a clinical performance nurse at Cleveland Clinic Akron General Hospital. Our group participates in several hospitalist committees and QI projects. Cleveland Clinic Akron General is a 532-bed regional medical center. The hospital has the prestigious “Magnet” status. Cleveland Clinic Akron General is recognized regionally and within Ohio for its expertise and care.

Qualifications: Board-certified/board-eligible in internal medicine. We proudly sponsor H1B & J1 visa candidates and provide in-house visa specialists, licensing, and credentialing support. All required filing fees for the visa are covered by Sound.

Scheduling: This Nocturnist role is a 7-days-on, 7-days-off rotation, but we help cover for our teammates as needed. We have 12 physicians and one APP working daily from 7:00 AM to 7:00 PM. 1 physician works a swing shift daily from 12 pm to 12 am. We have two physicians and one APP working nightly from 7:00 PM to 7:00 AM.

Key Responsibilities: We welcome the challenge of complex cases. The ICU is closed, and no procedures or codes are required. Our team responds to codes on their patients. For those who like to teach, we work with IM and FM residents from the Cleveland Clinic Akron General residency program.

Living and Working in Akron: Akron isn’t just where we work—it’s where we live, raise our families, and enjoy the best of a welcoming city with a close-knit community feel. Akron has everything from beautiful parks and trails to supporting outdoor adventures to the vibrant arts and music scene, family-friendly neighborhoods, and a thriving food culture.

Rewards and Compensation: Comprehensive pay and perks.

Tip: ask the recruiter early, in writing, which visa they sponsor and whether they cover the legal and filing fees.

Which visas can work for this job

Occupation: Physicians, All Other (SOC 29-1229).

  • Mentioned in the listing

    H-1B

  • H-1B cap-exempt employer

Regular cap-subject employer — a new H-1B needs to win the lottery in March (unless you already hold cap-counted H-1B status).

  • TN (citizens of Canada and Mexico)

This kind of role may fit the USMCA profession “Physician (teaching or research only)” — it depends on the actual duties. No lottery, no cap; you need the matching degree or license.

  • E-3 (Australia) and H-1B1 (Chile, Singapore)

Same degree requirement as H-1B, but no lottery and a separate quota that is rarely filled.

  • O-1 (extraordinary ability)

For candidates with awards, publications, press, a high salary or critical roles at distinguished organizations. No cap, no lottery; the employer files a petition.

Salary vs prevailing wage

Physicians, All Other · Akron, OH. Annual prevailing wages set by the Department of Labor (OFLC).

LevelPrevailing wageH-1B lottery odds*
Level I$102,710~15%
Level II$199,597~31%
Level III$296,462~46%
Level IV$393,349~61%

The listing has no salary, so we can't place it on a wage level. Ask the employer which wage level they'd file at: Level III–IV registrations get 3–4 entries in the H-1B lottery.

* Odds are DHS projections for the FY2027 wage-weighted lottery (actual results vary by year and employer). Since the FY2027 cap season the H-1B lottery is weighted by wage level: Level I = 1 entry, II = 2, III = 3, IV = 4. The level is set by the offered wage against the prevailing wage for the occupation and worksite. Separately, a $100,000 fee for new H-1B petitions for workers outside the US was announced in 2025; as of September 2026 a federal court ruling keeps it unenforceable while appeals continue — check the current status.
