Job Description & Requirements
General Anesthesiologist
StartDate: ASAP Pay Rate: $335000.00 - $425000.00
AMN Healthcare is recruiting Adult and Pediatric Generalist Anesthesiologists to join the Department of Anesthesiology & Perioperative Medicine (APOM) at Oregon Health & Science University (OHSU). As Oregon’s academic health center, OHSU blends high-acuity care with education, research, and a mission-driven culture. You’ll practice at a tertiary care center with 25 main operating rooms (plus off-site/ambulatory locations), caring for American Society of Anesthesiologists (ASA) III–IV patients across a broad case mix within a supportive care-team model. Enjoy clear pathways for teaching, research participation (if desired), and clinical growth—with additional compensation for work beyond the 50-hour week, competitive incentives, and a collaborative, “we’ve-got-your-back” team ethos. H-1B visa support available.
Opportunity Highlights
- Practice breadth: Generalist role covering neuro, vascular, thoracic, spine, ambulatory, out-of-operating room sites, electrophysiology/cath, obstetrics, and trauma; core cardiac bypass cases excluded.
- Care-team model: Medical direction of certified registered nurse anesthetists (CRNAs) 1:3–1:4; resident ratios typically 1:1–1:2; active residency and student registered nurse anesthetist (SRNA) teaching.
- Schedules built for balance: Monday–Friday clinical schedule; in-house night coverage with post-call day off if you work past midnight; no call >24 hours. Expect ~1–1.5 weekends/month.
- Facilities & scale: 25 main operating rooms plus 14 ambulatory ORs; robust backup from pediatric, cardiac, and liver teams when needed.
- Compensation & incentives: Base aligned to AAMC Western Region tables with additional hourly pay ($248/hour) for work above the expected week, sign-on bonus ($20,000), relocation ($15,000), paid time off (26 days), and continuing medical education (5 days / $4,000). Earning potential with call and incentives: $550,000+.
- Mission & resources: OHSU is Oregon’s only academic health center and Portland’s largest employer, with 576 licensed beds, multiple campuses, and the 320,000-sq-ft Knight Cancer Research Building supporting discovery and collaboration.
- Growth & belonging: Join a collegial department committed to mentorship, education excellence, and continuous improvement.
