Job description
Discover what’s possible in your career as a Medical Director in Hospital Medicine in Dyersburg, Tennessee. We believe in bringing "better" to our local community in Dyersburg—better care, better collaboration, and a deep commitment to the people we serve. We'd love to talk if you're looking for a role that supports your professional growth and connection to a vibrant community.
Local Team Collaboration: We are seeking a Medical Director to join our close-knit, well-established team of 6 physicians, 1 advanced practice provider (APP), and the invaluable support of a clinical performance nurse at West Tennessee Healthcare Dyersburg Hospital. Our team meets monthly to review performance metrics, address group matters, and collaborate on solutions to improve patient care. Work alongside a dedicated, high-performing team supported by a clinical performance nurse, with access to resources that foster individual and team success.
Qualifications: Board certification or board eligibility in the relevant specialty. Minimum of one year in hospital medicine as a leader in an associate medical director or director-level role. We proudly sponsor H1B visa candidates and provide in-house visa specialists, licensing, and credentialing support. All required visa filing fees are covered by Sound.
Scheduling: Our standard rotation is 7-days on and 7-days off, spanning Monday through Sunday. We value work-life balance, with the option for a flexible schedule and a commitment to covering for one another when a team member is on leave.
Key Responsibilities: Provide high-quality care through a daily rounding model involving three providers, with an average patient census of 12-15 per provider. On-call periods include admissions ranging from zero to a maximum of four to five patients. Work closely with a multidisciplinary team that includes cardiology, pulmonology, nephrology, general surgery, urology, GI, endocrinology, orthopedics, and wound care specialists. Collaborate with a dedicated nocturnist for 7p-7a coverage and work alongside advanced practice providers (APPs) from Bethel University to contribute to teaching and expanding educational services. Engage in challenging cases within an open ICU setting, where our diverse services—such as interventional cardiology, pulmonology, and nephrology—support comprehensive patient care.
Living and Working in Dyersburg: People are drawn to Dyersburg, Tennessee, for its serene, small-town atmosphere and the genuine sense of community that prevails. The town’s welcoming environment and affordable cost of living make it an ideal place to call home. We are a community-minded team, encouraging members to make meaningful contributions both within the hospital and beyond. Together, we work to foster the health and well-being of Dyersburg, making a positive impact locally.
Rewards and Compensation: Competitive salary with opportunities for bonuses based on performance and growth. Addie Pierce, Clinical Recruiter | apierce@soundphysicians.com | (615) 371-5779

- Mentioned in the listing
H-1B
- H-1B cap-exempt employer
Regular cap-subject employer — a new H-1B needs to win the lottery in March (unless you already hold cap-counted H-1B status).
- TN (citizens of Canada and Mexico)
This kind of role may fit the USMCA profession “Physician (teaching or research only)” — it depends on the actual duties. No lottery, no cap; you need the matching degree or license.
- E-3 (Australia) and H-1B1 (Chile, Singapore)
Same degree requirement as H-1B, but no lottery and a separate quota that is rarely filled.
- O-1 (extraordinary ability)
For candidates with awards, publications, press, a high salary or critical roles at distinguished organizations. No cap, no lottery; the employer files a petition.
- Green card (EB-2 / EB-3 via PERM)
Filed 3 PERM labor certifications: they have a track record of sponsoring permanent residence.
Salary vs prevailing wage
Physicians, All Other · West Tennessee nonmetropolitan area. Annual prevailing wages set by the Department of Labor (OFLC).
| Level | Prevailing wage | H-1B lottery odds* |
|---|---|---|
| Level I | $139,027 | ~15% |
| Level II | $224,245 | ~31% |
| Level III | $309,462 | ~46% |
| Level IV | $394,680 | ~61% |
The listing has no salary, so we can't place it on a wage level. Ask the employer which wage level they'd file at: Level III–IV registrations get 3–4 entries in the H-1B lottery.
* Odds are DHS projections for the FY2027 wage-weighted lottery (actual results vary by year and employer). Since the FY2027 cap season the H-1B lottery is weighted by wage level: Level I = 1 entry, II = 2, III = 3, IV = 4. The level is set by the offered wage against the prevailing wage for the occupation and worksite. Separately, a $100,000 fee for new H-1B petitions for workers outside the US was announced in 2025; as of September 2026 a federal court ruling keeps it unenforceable while appeals continue — check the current status.
