Job description

Join Our Gary, Indiana, Team as a Hospital Medicine Physician – A Role Designed for You We believe in bringing "better" to our local community in Gary—better care, better collaboration, and a deep commitment to the people we serve. If you're looking for a role that supports your professional growth and your connection to a vibrant community, we’d love to talk.

Local Team Collaboration: At Methodist Northlake Campus, our strong, collaborative team includes 6 physicians and two advanced practitioners who join forces with other hospital staff and departments to bring the best possible quality of care to our patients. Work alongside a very diverse team who come from all different geographical locations, backgrounds, and cultures. We collaborate and partner with each other to support and provide help. Our clinical performance nurse supports you in providing a high-quality patient care experience.

Qualifications: Medical Degree (MD or DO) from an accredited institution. Board certified/eligible in family or internal medicine. Active medical license or eligible to become licensed in Indiana. We welcome interest from physicians coming out of training or desiring a career change. We are proud sponsors of H-1B visa candidates, with Sound boasting in-house visa specialists and licensing and credentialing experts. All requisite visa filing fees and services are covered by Sound.

Scheduling: We have both day and night positions with an array of flexible scheduling options.

Key Responsibilities: Day Hospitalists Round on patients as well as do admissions. Our model is 2 Hospitalists along with an APP working as a team. We do not perform procedures, but we do run codes and rapids. You will be admitting to the ICU but do consult with an intensivist. We also have specialty support that can be at the hospital within minutes if necessary. We work with Epic as our EMR system and would be cross-credentialed at our sister location in Merrillville.

Living and Working in Gary: Located on the Indiana/Illinois border, just outside of the Chicagoland area, you will find the communities of Gary and Merrillville, Indiana. Located just 12 miles from each other, it is easy to work between both locations. Northwest Indiana is a great locale on Lake Michigan’s southern shore with its cities and towns offering a diverse range of lifestyles, with convenient access via train to downtown Chicago. The area offers a variety of housing, educational, and recreation opportunities along with a multitude of public and private schools. Our guiding principle is patient-first care, which means we’re focused on the people of Merrillville and nearby areas. You’ll be part of a team that’s making a real difference in the health of our neighbors.

Rewards and Compensation: Our compensation package is very competitive, and you can earn additional income through productivity and quality incentive bonuses.

Which visas can work for this job

Occupation: Physicians, All Other (SOC 29-1229).

  • Mentioned in the listing

    H-1B

  • H-1B cap-exempt employer

Regular cap-subject employer — a new H-1B needs to win the lottery in March (unless you already hold cap-counted H-1B status).

  • TN (citizens of Canada and Mexico)

This kind of role may fit the USMCA profession “Physician (teaching or research only)” — it depends on the actual duties. No lottery, no cap; you need the matching degree or license.

  • E-3 (Australia) and H-1B1 (Chile, Singapore)

Same degree requirement as H-1B, but no lottery and a separate quota that is rarely filled.

  • O-1 (extraordinary ability)

For candidates with awards, publications, press, a high salary or critical roles at distinguished organizations. No cap, no lottery; the employer files a petition.

Salary vs prevailing wage

Physicians, All Other · Chicago-Naperville-Elgin, IL-IN. Annual prevailing wages set by the Department of Labor (OFLC).

LevelPrevailing wageH-1B lottery odds*
Level I$74,048~15%
Level II$137,093~31%
Level III$200,158~46%
Level IV$263,203~61%

The listing has no salary, so we can't place it on a wage level. Ask the employer which wage level they'd file at: Level III–IV registrations get 3–4 entries in the H-1B lottery.

* Odds are DHS projections for the FY2027 wage-weighted lottery (actual results vary by year and employer). Since the FY2027 cap season the H-1B lottery is weighted by wage level: Level I = 1 entry, II = 2, III = 3, IV = 4. The level is set by the offered wage against the prevailing wage for the occupation and worksite. Separately, a $100,000 fee for new H-1B petitions for workers outside the US was announced in 2025; as of September 2026 a federal court ruling keeps it unenforceable while appeals continue — check the current status.
