Job description
This recruitment is part of MizzouForward, a major institutional investment in faculty recruitment, research infrastructure, and student success. Successful candidates will enhance externally funded research programs that expand MU's strengths in geospatial intelligence, contribute to undergraduate and graduate education in EECS, and advance interdisciplinary research through CGI.
CGI conducts interdisciplinary research across a broad range of areas, including satellite, airborne (e.g., drone), and ground-based remote sensing; artificial intelligence; computer vision; autonomous systems; data fusion; high-performance computing; change detection; and surveillance. Incoming faculty will join a research community with established federal partnerships and expertise in developing geospatial technologies for national security and other applications. CGI's secure research facilities and specialized computing infrastructure support work with government and industry partners.
The College of Engineering's strategic plan emphasizes interdisciplinary research connecting artificial intelligence, materials, and energy. Incoming faculty will have opportunities to contribute to these priorities through collaborations that apply geospatial analysis and advanced computing to areas such as energy infrastructure resilience, environmental monitoring, and materials discovery. The Materials Science and Engineering Institute and the forthcoming Payne Energy Innovation Center, a 116,000-square-foot facility bringing together researchers in energy, materials, and data science, will provide additional connections across Engineering and other colleges.
Faculty will also have opportunities to collaborate through MU's AI Education, Research and Infrastructure (AERI) Center, which connects researchers across disciplines to advance applied AI research, computing infrastructure, and workforce development. The Center for Cybersecurity and the Quantum Innovation Center offer further opportunities for collaborative research in secure systems and quantum approaches to computing and data analysis. University research resources include the Hellbender high-performance computing environment and immersive visualization facilities for AI and large-scale data analytics.

Salary vs prevailing wage
Electrical Engineers · Columbia, MO. Annual prevailing wages set by the Department of Labor (OFLC).
| Level | Prevailing wage | H-1B lottery odds* |
|---|---|---|
| Level I | $66,206 | ~15% |
| Level II | $83,595 | ~31% |
| Level III | $100,963 | ~46% |
| Level IV | $118,352 | ~61% |
The listing has no salary, so we can't place it on a wage level. Ask the employer which wage level they'd file at: Level III–IV registrations get 3–4 entries in the H-1B lottery.
* Odds are DHS projections for the FY2027 wage-weighted lottery (actual results vary by year and employer). Since the FY2027 cap season the H-1B lottery is weighted by wage level: Level I = 1 entry, II = 2, III = 3, IV = 4. The level is set by the offered wage against the prevailing wage for the occupation and worksite. Separately, a $100,000 fee for new H-1B petitions for workers outside the US was announced in 2025; as of September 2026 a federal court ruling keeps it unenforceable while appeals continue — check the current status.
