Position Details
Position Description
The Division of Bioethics and Palliative Care, in the Department of Pediatrics, at the University of Washington, is seeking a candidate to join our faculty as full time Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, or full Professor, on the Clinical Practice track. Rank will be commensurate with experience and qualifications. The anticipated start date is Spring/Summer 2027.
The successful applicant will join a well-established combined Division of Bioethics and Palliative Care and a skilled and experienced multidisciplinary clinical palliative care team. The Division and clinical team value the excellence that comes from diversity, and work hard to foster a climate of inclusion and collaboration.
Particular strengths of the program include an outstanding fellowship program, a very longstanding and well-respected clinical program, and a close relationship with an active research program through the Treuman Katz Center for Pediatric Bioethics and Palliative Care.
Clinical responsibilities will include providing in-patient and outpatient palliative care services and call.
The initial appointment period will be three years, at a minimum, with eligibility for renewal thereafter. Faculty on the clinical practice track hold multi-year appointments that align with a 12-month service period (July 1-June 30). Faculty with 12-month service periods are paid for 11 months of service over a 12-month period (July-June), meaning the equivalent of one month is available for paid time off. Clinical Practice track appointments are not eligible for tenure.
The base salary range for this position will be: Assistant Professor of Clinical Practice $14,691 - $22,037 per month ($176,301 - $264,451 annually), Associate Professor of Clinical Practice $16,479 - $24,719 per month ($197,754 - $296,632 annually), Professor of Clinical Practice $19,568 - $29,353 per month ($234,826 - $352,240 annually) commensurate with experience and qualifications, or as mandated by a U.S. Department of Labor prevailing wage determination.
This range is inclusive of base salary provided through the Children’s University Medical Group (CUMG) practice plan, in addition to base salary provided by the University. Please note that only compensation provided by the University is included in University benefit determinations and calculations. Compensation provided by Children’s University Medical Group (CUMG) practice plan may provide eligibility for separate benefits offered by that organization. Please see additional benefits that may be available: https://faculty.uwmedicine.org/wp-content/uploads/2019/09/CUMG-Benefits-Summary-for-recruiting.pdf.
Other compensation associated with this position may include incentive through Children’s University Medical Group practice plan.
Additional administrative responsibilities may be offered to a specific candidate with appropriate experience and qualifications which may result in an administrative duty supplement (ADS).
All University of Washington faculty are expected to engage in teaching, research, and service.

Salary vs prevailing wage
Level IV (fully competent)Business Teachers, Postsecondary · Seattle-Tacoma-Bellevue, WA. Annual prevailing wages set by the Department of Labor (OFLC).
| Level | Prevailing wage | H-1B lottery odds* |
|---|---|---|
| Level I | $64,260 | ~15% |
| Level II | $96,983 | ~31% |
| Level III | $129,707 | ~46% |
| Level IV | $162,430 | ~61% |
This job pays $176,301–$352,240 a year — that's Level IV (fully competent). In the wage-weighted H-1B lottery a Level IV registration gets 4 entries; estimated selection chance about 61% — better than average.
* Odds are DHS projections for the FY2027 wage-weighted lottery (actual results vary by year and employer). Since the FY2027 cap season the H-1B lottery is weighted by wage level: Level I = 1 entry, II = 2, III = 3, IV = 4. The level is set by the offered wage against the prevailing wage for the occupation and worksite. Separately, a $100,000 fee for new H-1B petitions for workers outside the US was announced in 2025; as of September 2026 a federal court ruling keeps it unenforceable while appeals continue — check the current status.
