Job description

Spectrum Search is partnered with a well-backed AI technology company seeking a Data Product Operations Lead to turn complex data projects into reliable, scalable delivery.

About the opportunity

The company develops training datasets for AI models, working with established technology businesses and AI research teams. As customer demand grows, it is expanding its operations capability to improve how datasets are designed, produced and delivered.

This full-time opportunity combines operational ownership, product thinking and cross-functional execution. It suits an analytical operator who has taken projects from an initial concept through to repeatable production and wants direct responsibility for the quality of the finished product.

The role

You will lead data projects from requirements gathering through resource planning, production and customer delivery. End-to-end project delivery will account for more than half of your time, alongside improving workflows and collaborating with technical teams.

Working across Operations, Product, Engineering and Machine Learning, you will help translate customer needs into practical production processes. You will also engage with technical customer stakeholders around delivery requirements and outcomes.

Key responsibilities

  • Own data projects from initial prototype through to scaled production and delivery.
  • Define project requirements, coordinate resources and plan contributor capacity.
  • Design, monitor and improve data production pipelines.
  • Track throughput, quality and cost to identify bottlenecks and prioritise improvements.
  • Work with contributors and technical teams to improve dataset quality.
  • Translate customer requirements into clear operational plans and delivery milestones.
  • Coordinate cross-functional workstreams across Operations, Product and Engineering.
  • Build repeatable processes that support increasing production volumes.

Essential requirements

  • Relevant experience in management consulting, strategy and operations, product operations or an early-stage technology business.
  • Demonstrable ownership of a project or operational pipeline from early development through to production at scale.
  • Experience leading cross-functional workstreams involving operational and technical teams.
  • Strong analytical skills, with evidence of using data to diagnose problems and improve performance.
  • Sound product judgement and confidence collaborating with engineers.
  • A practical approach to execution, including taking responsibility for detailed delivery work.
  • SQL proficiency or a willingness to learn and apply it in the role.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in human data operations or AI training datasets.
  • Customer-facing experience with technical stakeholders.
  • Familiarity with audio or voice data.
  • Exposure to generative AI, workflow automation or AI agents.

Location and remote setup

This is a full-time, on-site position requiring five days per week in the San Francisco office.

Candidates must be able to work on site or relocate independently. Relocation support is not available.

The company is open to visa transfers, with OPT and H-1B transfer arrangements referenced in the hiring brief.

Visa sponsorship record

No public sponsorship records found

We didn't find H-1B, H-1B1, E-3 or green card (PERM) filings under the name Spectrum Search in the Department of Labor and USCIS data. That doesn't mean the job can't be sponsored — the company may file under a different legal name, be new to sponsorship, or sponsor a visa that isn't in these datasets (for example H-2B or J-1).

Tip: ask the recruiter early, in writing, which visa they sponsor and whether they cover the legal and filing fees.

Occupation: Data Scientists (SOC 15-2051).

  • Mentioned in the listing

    H-1B, OPT

  • H-1B cap-exempt employer

Regular cap-subject employer — a new H-1B needs to win the lottery in March (unless you already hold cap-counted H-1B status).

  • TN (citizens of Canada and Mexico)

This kind of role may fit the USMCA profession “Mathematician / Statistician” — it depends on the actual duties. No lottery, no cap; you need the matching degree or license.

  • E-3 (Australia) and H-1B1 (Chile, Singapore)

Same degree requirement as H-1B, but no lottery and a separate quota that is rarely filled.

  • O-1 (extraordinary ability)

For candidates with awards, publications, press, a high salary or critical roles at distinguished organizations. No cap, no lottery; the employer files a petition.

  • STEM OPT extension (F-1 students)

Requires an E-Verify employer. We didn't find this company in the E-Verify list — ask HR.

Salary vs prevailing wage

Data Scientists · San Francisco-Oakland-Fremont, CA. Annual prevailing wages set by the Department of Labor (OFLC).

LevelPrevailing wageH-1B lottery odds*
Level I$110,386~15%
Level II$142,438~31%
Level III$174,512~46%
Level IV$206,565~61%

The listing has no salary, so we can't place it on a wage level. Ask the employer which wage level they'd file at: Level III–IV registrations get 3–4 entries in the H-1B lottery.

* Odds are DHS projections for the FY2027 wage-weighted lottery (actual results vary by year and employer). Since the FY2027 cap season the H-1B lottery is weighted by wage level: Level I = 1 entry, II = 2, III = 3, IV = 4. The level is set by the offered wage against the prevailing wage for the occupation and worksite. Separately, a $100,000 fee for new H-1B petitions for workers outside the US was announced in 2025; as of September 2026 a federal court ruling keeps it unenforceable while appeals continue — check the current status.
