Job description

About the Lab & Mission

We are a stealth-stage applied AI research lab located in New York City, backed by top-tier investors and AI leaders. We are tackling one of the final frontiers in artificial intelligence: computational creativity.

We are building a foundational intelligence layer engineered for superhuman creative reasoning, artistic decision-making, and divergent thinking. Our goal is to give anyone the ability to feel like a genius creator by simply chatting with AI.

We operate as a tight-knit, high-velocity team of researchers, systems engineers, and world-class artists.

The Role

We are seeking an ML Research Scientist to invent new methods beyond standard pattern matching and teach LLMs genuine creative reasoning, taste, and judgment.

What You’ll Do

  • Invent Next-Gen Training Recipes: Develop novel post-training algorithms, RL recipes (GRPO, RLVR, DPO), and process-level reward verifiers to teach LLMs creative reasoning and long-horizon planning.
  • Master LLM Alignment & Reasoning: Advance Chain-of-Thought (CoT), System 2 reasoning, synthetic preference data generation, and reward modeling to guide model behavior in subjective, high-taste creative domains.
  • Unbounded Compute & Scale: Access massive multi-GPU clusters (H100/H200) to scale research ideas from zero-to-one concepts directly into production models.
  • Encode Creative Taste: Work side-by-side with world-class directors, designers, and writers to decode human creative judgment and embed it into model loss functions.
  • Ship Frontier Research: Move at early-stage startup speed with zero paper queues, middle management, or "cool demo" limbo—your research ships directly into systems used by millions.

What We’re Looking For

  • Academic & Research Pedigree: PhD in CS/ML from a top institution (or an exceptional M.Sc. with a proven track record of breakthrough research).
  • Publication Track Record: Multiple first-author papers at top-tier ML venues (NeurIPS, ICML, ICLR). Oral or Spotlight presentations are a strong positive signal.
  • Deep LLM & Post-Training Expertise: Proven experience in LLM mid-training, continual pre-training, SFT, RLHF, GRPO, RLVR, or reasoning distillation.
  • First-Principles Mathematical Depth: Mastery of probability, optimization, and statistical learning theory needed to invent new algorithms from scratch rather than wrapping existing frameworks.
  • Founding DNA: High ambition, comfort with startup ambiguity, and a strong drive to own a significant piece of a technology revolution.

Why Join Us?

  1. True Founding Ownership: $250k–$600k cash + 1.5%–2.5% founding equity ("Better to own 1% of a revolution than 0.001% of an evolution").
  2. No Research Shelf-Life: Direct pipeline from whiteboard to production.
  3. Frictionless Visa Support: Dedicated legal team providing fast-tracked O-1 / EB-1 petitioning and H-1B support.
  4. Remote across the US or in-person in NYC.

Visa sponsorship record

No public sponsorship records found

We didn't find H-1B, H-1B1, E-3 or green card (PERM) filings under the name Oakwell Hampton Group in the Department of Labor and USCIS data. That doesn't mean the job can't be sponsored — the company may file under a different legal name, be new to sponsorship, or sponsor a visa that isn't in these datasets (for example H-2B or J-1).

Tip: ask the recruiter early, in writing, which visa they sponsor and whether they cover the legal and filing fees.

Occupation: Data Scientists (SOC 15-2051) — estimated from the job title.

  • Mentioned in the listing

    H-1B

  • H-1B cap-exempt employer

Regular cap-subject employer — a new H-1B needs to win the lottery in March (unless you already hold cap-counted H-1B status).

  • TN (citizens of Canada and Mexico)

This kind of role may fit the USMCA profession “Mathematician / Statistician” — it depends on the actual duties. No lottery, no cap; you need the matching degree or license.

  • E-3 (Australia) and H-1B1 (Chile, Singapore)

Same degree requirement as H-1B, but no lottery and a separate quota that is rarely filled.

  • O-1 (extraordinary ability)

For candidates with awards, publications, press, a high salary or critical roles at distinguished organizations. No cap, no lottery; the employer files a petition.

  • STEM OPT extension (F-1 students)

Requires an E-Verify employer. We didn't find this company in the E-Verify list — ask HR.

Salary vs prevailing wage

Level IV (fully competent)

Data Scientists · New York (state median of areas). Annual prevailing wages set by the Department of Labor (OFLC).

L1L2L3L4
LevelPrevailing wageH-1B lottery odds*
Level I$64,251~15%
Level II$85,748~31%
Level III$106,434~46%
Level IV$126,392~61%

This job pays $250,000–$600,000 a year — that's Level IV (fully competent). In the wage-weighted H-1B lottery a Level IV registration gets 4 entries; estimated selection chance about 61% — better than average.

* Odds are DHS projections for the FY2027 wage-weighted lottery (actual results vary by year and employer). Since the FY2027 cap season the H-1B lottery is weighted by wage level: Level I = 1 entry, II = 2, III = 3, IV = 4. The level is set by the offered wage against the prevailing wage for the occupation and worksite. Separately, a $100,000 fee for new H-1B petitions for workers outside the US was announced in 2025; as of September 2026 a federal court ruling keeps it unenforceable while appeals continue — check the current status.
