Our world-class faculty and students lead scholarship on critical issues in education and are committed to innovation and discovery. As a top-ranked institution, we develop and apply new pedagogies and practices that improve understanding—supporting traditional, blended, and online learning. The Education at Illinois community shares the ideals of respect for diverse ideas and social identities; dedication to community engagement; and the responsibility to make scholarship accessible and inclusive for all.

Teaching assignments will primarily include courses in equity-centered trauma-informed education that are required for the Trauma-Informed Practices and Pedagogy (TIPP) concentration in the online master’s degree in Curriculum & Instruction. Additional Curriculum & Instruction courses will be assigned based on the candidate’s areas of expertise, which will be offered face-to-face or online. The faculty member will also play a role in coordinating the Trauma-Informed Education undergraduate and graduate programs and courses.

Required Qualifications: An earned PhD in education or a related field is required prior to the start of the position. Experience in the use of technology for instructional delivery, including online course delivery, is required.

Preferred Experience: We prefer candidates who have the following qualifications: (1) earned doctorate with a research focus in Trauma-Informed Education or related area; (2) relevant teaching experience in PreK-12th grades; (3) significant experience in multicultural and diverse educational settings; (4) demonstrated commitment to teacher education and professional development; (5) prior university teaching experience; (6) expertise in additional content areas where the department of Curriculum & Instruction currently offers courses (i.e., early childhood education, literacy, math, science, or social studies).

Responsibilities: Our new colleague will be expected to (1) develop and teach master’s level courses related to equity-centered, trauma-informed education; (2) contribute to the development of undergraduate programs in Trauma-Informed Education; and (3) teach additional courses in Curriculum and Instruction based on the candidate’s areas of expertise, (4) provide service at state and local levels related to trauma-informed education. The position will be 80% teaching (4:4 teaching load), 20% administrative and service work.

Salary and Starting Date: The budgeted salary range for the position is $68,000-$80,000. The pay offered to the selected candidate will be determined based on factors including (but not limited to) the experience and qualifications of the selected candidate including equivalent years in rank, training, and field or discipline; internal equity; and external market pay for comparable jobs. It is not typical for an individual to be offered a salary at or near the top of the full range for a position. The proposed starting date is August 16, 2027.

This position is eligible for sponsorship for work authorization, except for sponsorship of a new H1B petition that would incur the $100,000 fee.
