Job description

Nephrologist | Physician-Owned Practice | Partnership Track | San Antonio, Texas

Build Your Practice. Become a Partner. Own Your Future.

South Texas Renal Care Group (STRCG) is seeking a Board-Certified or Board-Eligible nephrologist to join our established practice serving San Antonio and South Texas.

As San Antonio’s only physician-owned and physician-operated nephrology practice, we give physicians a voice in clinical care and the direction of the organization. We are 100% physician-owned, free from private equity control.

Whether you are completing fellowship or exploring your next professional chapter, STRCG offers the opportunity to practice comprehensive nephrology, pursue leadership, and build toward ownership through a defined 4-year, productivity-based partnership track.

COMPREHENSIVE, COORDINATED KIDNEY CARE

Join 16 nephrologists, 3 vascular surgeons, and 6 nurse practitioners across 13 locations. Our physicians practice outpatient nephrology, inpatient and ICU care, hemodialysis, peritoneal dialysis, home therapies, and kidney transplant care.

Our multispecialty model brings nephrology and vascular surgery together to coordinate access care, increase AV fistula and graft use, and reduce catheter dependence. We also advance value-based kidney care through Medicare and commercial payer partnerships focused on early intervention, coordinated care, and improved outcomes.

COMPENSATION AND OWNERSHIP OPPORTUNITIES

  • $250,000 guaranteed base salary
  • $25,000 sign-on bonus
  • Up to $10,000 in relocation assistance
  • Collections-based production compensation, including supervised nurse practitioner collections
  • Defined 4-year, productivity-based partnership track
  • Additional income opportunities through dialysis medical directorships
  • Opportunities to participate in dialysis joint ventures, physician-owned vascular access services, real estate holdings, medical research, and practice leadership

BENEFITS AND SUPPORT

  • Health insurance for you and your family
  • Company-paid malpractice coverage
  • Disability insurance and company-paid $50,000 life insurance
  • 401(k) with a Safe Harbor non-elective employer contribution after one year
  • Texas licensing and credentialing support
  • H-1B opportunities may be available; J-1 waiver opportunities may be available at select South Texas locations

QUALIFICATIONS

MD or DO; Board-Certified in Internal Medicine; Board-Eligible or Board-Certified in Nephrology; and eligible for Texas medical licensure. Fellows completing training are encouraged to apply. Spanish proficiency is preferred but not required.

Build your future in San Antonio, a welcoming city with rich culture, a strong healthcare community, and no Texas state income tax.

Visa sponsorship record

No public sponsorship records found

We didn't find H-1B, H-1B1, E-3 or green card (PERM) filings under the name South Texas Renal Care Group in the Department of Labor and USCIS data. That doesn't mean the job can't be sponsored — the company may file under a different legal name, be new to sponsorship, or sponsor a visa that isn't in these datasets (for example H-2B or J-1).

Tip: ask the recruiter early, in writing, which visa they sponsor and whether they cover the legal and filing fees.

Which visas can work for this job

Occupation: Physicians, All Other (SOC 29-1229).

  • Mentioned in the listing

    H-1B

  • H-1B cap-exempt employer

Regular cap-subject employer — a new H-1B needs to win the lottery in March (unless you already hold cap-counted H-1B status).

  • TN (citizens of Canada and Mexico)

This kind of role may fit the USMCA profession “Physician (teaching or research only)” — it depends on the actual duties. No lottery, no cap; you need the matching degree or license.

  • E-3 (Australia) and H-1B1 (Chile, Singapore)

Same degree requirement as H-1B, but no lottery and a separate quota that is rarely filled.

  • O-1 (extraordinary ability)

For candidates with awards, publications, press, a high salary or critical roles at distinguished organizations. No cap, no lottery; the employer files a petition.

Salary vs prevailing wage

Level II (qualified)

Physicians, All Other · Texas (state median of areas). Annual prevailing wages set by the Department of Labor (OFLC).

L1L2L3L4
LevelPrevailing wageH-1B lottery odds*
Level I$86,444~15%
Level II$178,236~31%
Level III$269,786~46%
Level IV$355,336~61%

This job pays $250,000 a year — that's Level II (qualified). In the wage-weighted H-1B lottery a Level II registration gets 2 entries; estimated selection chance about 31%.

* Odds are DHS projections for the FY2027 wage-weighted lottery (actual results vary by year and employer). Since the FY2027 cap season the H-1B lottery is weighted by wage level: Level I = 1 entry, II = 2, III = 3, IV = 4. The level is set by the offered wage against the prevailing wage for the occupation and worksite. Separately, a $100,000 fee for new H-1B petitions for workers outside the US was announced in 2025; as of September 2026 a federal court ruling keeps it unenforceable while appeals continue — check the current status.
