Job description
About us
Spring provides working capital to consumer brands. In under a year, we've advanced more than $200 million to over 200 customers. Three people built nearly the entire technology stack. Spring is backed by a $300 million bank facility and $30 million in equity.
We're hiring a founding engineer to build the next stage: AI agents that manage underwriting, funding, and repayment at scale, alongside software that helps our customers run their finances. You'll work directly with the founders to decide what gets built and own it from idea to production.
Our engineering team brings experience from Two Sigma, Airbnb, Meta, and Wolverine Trading.
Why we start with capital
Customers connect their bank accounts, accounting systems, and retailer data to access funding. Those connections give us a foundation for building software around the same information they use to manage cash, collect payments, and plan growth. You'll help turn that access into products founders and finance teams use every day.
What you'll build
- Automated underwriting. Build the next version of our underwriting engine to serve thousands of businesses. Translate credit rules into reliable workflows across financial analysis, funding, and repayment, with evaluations that determine whether a change is ready to ship.
- Financial products. Connect bank, accounting, and retailer data into a coherent view of a brand's business. Build tools for tracking invoices and deductions, forecasting cash flow, understanding profitability by product and retailer, and syncing results back to accounting systems.
- Interfaces for working with agents. Build interfaces that change as an agent works, making its actions visible and letting the customer direct the next step. Use real interactions and outcomes to improve the agent's tools and workflows.
- Money movement. Build funding and repayment flows over bank APIs, and the ledger and reconciliation systems that keep payments and balances accurate.
How we build
Our stack includes Python, TypeScript, React, PostgreSQL, and AWS. We work in one monorepo and use coding agents extensively. You'll shape what they build, review their work, and own the result in production.
What you'll bring
- A record of shipping and operating products across the stack, from the interface to the systems behind it.
- Depth in at least one of AI agents, data infrastructure, or distributed systems, and the ability to learn across the others.
- A high bar for correctness and craft. You work quickly, catch edge cases, keep systems simple, and follow through after launch.
- Experience using AI coding tools effectively, with the judgment to evaluate and improve their output.
Experience in trading, payments, fintech, or consumer goods is welcome, but not required.

H-1B
- H-1B cap-exempt employer
Regular cap-subject employer — a new H-1B needs to win the lottery in March (unless you already hold cap-counted H-1B status).
- TN (citizens of Canada and Mexico)
This kind of role may fit the USMCA profession “Computer Systems Analyst (or Engineer, for engineering-degree holders)” — it depends on the actual duties. No lottery, no cap; you need the matching degree or license.
- E-3 (Australia) and H-1B1 (Chile, Singapore)
Same degree requirement as H-1B, but no lottery and a separate quota that is rarely filled.
- O-1 (extraordinary ability)
For candidates with awards, publications, press, a high salary or critical roles at distinguished organizations. No cap, no lottery; the employer files a petition.
- STEM OPT extension (F-1 students)
Requires an E-Verify employer. We didn't find this company in the E-Verify list — ask HR.
Salary vs prevailing wage
Level IV (fully competent)Software Developers · New York (state median of areas). Annual prevailing wages set by the Department of Labor (OFLC).
| Level | Prevailing wage | H-1B lottery odds* |
|---|---|---|
| Level I | $84,937 | ~15% |
| Level II | $107,244 | ~31% |
| Level III | $128,658 | ~46% |
| Level IV | $149,208 | ~61% |
This job pays $175,000–$250,000 a year — that's Level IV (fully competent). In the wage-weighted H-1B lottery a Level IV registration gets 4 entries; estimated selection chance about 61% — better than average.
* Odds are DHS projections for the FY2027 wage-weighted lottery (actual results vary by year and employer). Since the FY2027 cap season the H-1B lottery is weighted by wage level: Level I = 1 entry, II = 2, III = 3, IV = 4. The level is set by the offered wage against the prevailing wage for the occupation and worksite. Separately, a $100,000 fee for new H-1B petitions for workers outside the US was announced in 2025; as of September 2026 a federal court ruling keeps it unenforceable while appeals continue — check the current status.
